It’s all in the details.
It’s in the red dress (that I bought in China) that I am wearing in today’s post. Red, black, white with hints of gold. It does not sound right until you put it together in an outfit like today’s. It’s in the black straps of my Patek Philippe watch that match my black Schutz shoes and my handbag. It’s in the gold hardware hints on my watch, my ring and my handbag. It’s in the white accents on my watch and the back detail of my dress. It’s all in the details.
It’s in a blog post like today’s. It’s in the post title and in the way the words have come out to play to form the sentences. It’s in the sequence of the pictures which highlight the photographer’s attention to detail. It’s in knowing that today is Friday and this look can double up as a work look and as an ‘after work drinks’ look. It’s also in knowing that this look can be dressed down over the weekend with flats to achieve a casual look. Yes, It’s all in the details.
A great and detailed weekend to each and every one of you!
Love and love!
When a certain popular Nigerian artist released a song with the same title as today’s post, he probably did not know what he was stepping into. You just have to hash tag African queen and see all the responses that will come up. I am in no way implying that he invented the word/s, but his song made them a bit more popular, I think.
So today, appropriately being Woman Crush Wednesday, we are celebrating the African queen. Meaning we are celebrating you and you and you. And what better way to celebrate all the African queens (all queens really) who will read this post than with some beautiful African prints? For the far we have come, for where we are now and for how far we are going, let’s celebrate each other. We are queens! The world is ours to take!
To celebrate all the queens today, I am wearing a jumpsuit by an amazing designer in Dar es Salaam called Bijoux Trendy. She has some very simple but classy outfits pieces that are well loved and are worn by people from all walks of life. I will be featuring more of her pieces over the days as I love her designs.
A great day to each of you and just go out there and be the queen that you are!
Let’s talk a little bit about thrift shopping, shall we? Although thrifting has been around for ages, it was sort of looked down upon because people did not want to be associated with wearing second hand clothes. But enter the fashion blogging era and now suddenly thrifting is cool. There are ‘thrift pros’ who write posts and film videos to share the ‘tricks’ of the ‘thrifting trade’. We even have TV shows solely dedicated to thrift shopping! These days, thrifting is considered an art.
The pants am wearing on this post are thrifted and cost TZS 18,000! I could not leave without them seeing how perfectly they fit me and we all know about my obsession with great fitting pants. Without a doubt, these pants are among the coolest pieces I own. To upgrade my pants, I paired them with a simple vest from Woolworths and these sexy shoes by Gianvito Rossi. And then off I went to shoot this 70’s inspired shoot with the amazing Mxcarter of Slide Visuals. That was an amazing experience!
Do you thrift? If you do, what are some of the treasured pieces that you have acquired from thrifting?
A great weekend to each one of you!
“Travelling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta.
Not so long ago, I had the chance to visit the beautiful town of Bagamoyo. Before I indulge you in the details of this post, allow me to talk about this historic town for a moment, which is about an hour’s drive from Dar es Salaam. Taking a stroll through the town’s narrow streets takes you back to the time when Bagamoyo was an important trading port for ivory and slave trade. Although nothing much happens in this town today, it is still an ideal day trip location, away from the hustle and bustle of Dar es Salaam.
So, now you know where I shot these crisp images from! Naturally, as a fashion blogger, I sometimes tend to go over the line with my outfits. Case in point, consider this outfit which consists of this amazing shirt dress by ASOS, shorts by Hunter Blue (which is one of my favourite stores in Dar) and these pair of gladiator pumps by Kandee Shoes. Of cause, this is not a common outfit to spot out and about in Bagamoyo and I should have switched up my pumps with flats but… I was comfortable and I loved my outfit.
This look is very easy to recreate even for a casual date; just take your boyfriend’s shirt and dress it up with killer heels and you are good to go!
Have a great weekend and be safe!
Sometimes, I do not know what to wear. No, the truth is that sometimes I do not have anything to wear. I stand there infront of my wardrobe looking at all my clothes and with a slight panic realize, “I have nothing to wear at all!” Then I pull open a drawer and I see one outfit piece and suddenly a light bulb goes on in my head and I can picture the full outfit in my mind, from that one piece. From one minute to the next, I know what to wear, how to wear it and what to wear it with.
I also know that every woman in the world goes through this ‘mini-panic’ every now and then.
This is the exact scenario that birthed this outfit. I could not find anything cool to wear out for a lunch date but when I reached for this FILA t-shirt, everything just fell into place. To achieve a casual yet sexy look, I paired the t-shirt with this pair of Forever 21 denims and finished off with Christian Louboutin stilettos. You all know by now that I am a sucker for good-fitting denims and I have rocked them countless times on this blog.
This look is also perfect for a casual Valentine’s Day brunch date. I mean, this is a free world. And wearing a red dress is too mainstream!
I know I have been MIA again but it has been due to unavoidable circumstances. Really. One day I will tell my behind-the-scenes story of starting and maintaining this blog. I can assure you that it has not been easy but I will keep pushing through.
Anyway, it is that time of the year again! Drumrolls please! Saint Valentine’s Day!
I know I sound excited about it but I cannot help but marvel at how commercial life has been made to be. One month after Christmas, the media is now driving us crazy with Valentine’s Day offers and ideas. In about another month, it will be Easter holiday offers and specials and before we know it, it is Christmas again. Oh, the circle of life.
Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to wear that striking red dress. Well, you do not have to wear a dress and your color of choice does not need to be red. You can wear whatever you want to, as long as you own it. Life is too short for anybody to dictate what color or outfit you should wear on a particular day. Case in point, it is not yet Valentine’s Day but here I am in a red fitted dress by Vesper ASOS, Christian Louboutin stilettos and a belt by Kiki’s Fashion.
As we start the countdown towards Valentine’s Day, whatever your plans, whether you’re going all out on it or just chilling at home, always treasure the loved ones in your life. Not only on Valentine’s Day but every day!
